Caerleon May Day Fair
The Fair has been a big attraction for hundreds of years. It started as an animal and trading fair in medieval times and has been an enjoyable day out for many over the years. However, it has now far outgrown the Common and is attracting badly behaved young people and adults, spoiling the event for families, residents and law abiding citizens. Caerleon Councillors, supported by Newport City Council and Police, are demanding action to move the Fair to a safer and more suitable location. Mr Danter, the Fair owner, has already attended one meeting and another is arranged for the autumn with the aim of resolving this unacceptable situation..

Youth
Caerleon Youth Club - Caerleon Councillors are providing additional funding this year to enable the very popular Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme to continue running at UWN.
Caerleon Dancing School-
Following the sell out performance by Jackie Dovey’s dancers last year they will be providing another performance on Friday May 19th at the Town Hall in support of Caerleon in Bloom. Many thanks to Jackie, and the young people, who are giving so much of their time and energy for this excellent cause.
If you would like tickets or more information about the Dancing School please contact Jackie on: 420048.
Caerleon Youth Football Association held a Penalty Kick competition on May 7th to raise much needed funds for the club. All the young footballers showed their skills and determination and could certainly ‘bend it like Beckham’. A ‘friendly’ match between Managers/ Trainers and Dads was played at the conclusion of the event. Referee, Cliff Suller, managed to control the competitive game with the Dads winning 3-0. This was a truly excellent family occasion that was enjoyed by all. Good luck for next season.

Traffic
Lodge Road - Police speed checks continue on Lodge Road because irresponsible drivers persist in ignoring speed limits.
Ponthir Road – A new Pedestrian Crossing has been installed on Ponthir Road near the Spar as a response to demands from Caerleon Councillors and residents.

Anti-social behaviour

The Bull Car park – Following serious damage caused to cars in the pub’s car park a meeting was called by Caerleon Councillors to discuss neighbouring residents concerns. Caerleon police and a representative of the public house also attended. As a result the pub will be providing additional cctv and lighting in the car park and the level of policing support is to be reviewed.

Home Farm Crescent
A beautiful, healthy Hornbeam tree in Home Farm Crescent has been maliciously vandalised and stripped of its bark. As a result it will have to be cut down. The vandals should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Caerleon Neighbourhood meetings

These public meetings are held three times a year around the Caerleon ward. The next meeting is Tuesday 16th May at 7pm, Lodge Hill Junior School, Lodge Hill. All are welcome.
Meetings are advertised on local notice boards and information is also available from Newport City Council call centre on 656656 or the website: www.newport.gov.uk

A new public notice board, paid for by Caerleon Councillors, is due to be placed on Ponthir Road, opposite the Spar shop in the near future.
