Chris has lived in Malpas for the past 27 years and is married to David and has four daughters. Chris initially trained as a nurse and worked at the Royal Gwent Hospital for 17 years. She then took the brave step as a mature student to retrain as a social worker. Her first post in her new profession as a Social Worker was at Newport City Council. She then moved on to work for the Welsh Assembly and is currently employed by Caerphilly Council Social Services at the new state of the art Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital at Hengoed. Chris has always played a big part in the local community getting involved in many different projects. She is a governor at the Church in Wales Junior School.

Jane Mudd (formerly Francis) has lived in Malpas all of her life. A local candidate, Jane is married to Steve with two sons, Richard and Andrew. Jane was educated at Malpas Court Primary School and Queens Comprehensive and worked in a number of local retailers before returning to education as a mature student. After Jane achieved a degree she worked with adults with learning disabilities and also in community development before embarking upon a post graduate qualification and a career in the housing sector. Jane is currently the Programme Director of the Housing courses at Cardiff Metropolitan University where she teaches both Housing and Health and Social Care. Jane has always been active in the community and for many years volunteered at Malpas Court community centre helping to organise and run Malpas Court Playgroup. She has been a school governor at Malpas Park Primary School for many years and is also very active within the Welsh housing sector. Jane is the elected Chair of the Chartered Institute of Housing in Wales and is an independent board member of a local Housing Association.

David has been a Councillor for Malpas since 1990 He was a key member of the a sub-committee that introduced the City Website and email system (1994) and campaigned from that time for a Contact Centre (656656) and the Face to Face Centre now opened (15 years later) at the Old Rail Station on Queensway.

Until 2008 David was chair of the Council’s Audit Committee and the innovative Cabinet sub group, Transforming Access To Services

David originally trained as Classical French Chef and worked in Hotels and industrial catering until the late 1980s. As a mature student he achieved an Open University Degree in Humanities, followed by a BA Hons in Graphic Design at Newport and an MA in Design Education and a Post Graduate Teaching Certifcate at UWIC.

From 1994 he was Graphic Design Lecturer and then Head of Art design & Media at Coleg Gwent Pontypool.

David is currently a Lecturer in Design Communication and Visual and Motion Effects at Glamorgan University Atrium Cardiff.

From 1985 until 2001 David was Parliamentary Agent for Paul Flynn MP as well as acting as Agent for all District, County and European Elections and the inaugural Welsh Assembly Election in 1999.

From 1987 until 2005 he was chair of Newport trade Union branch of Amicus/Unite.

He is currently Chair of Governors at Malpas Court Junior and Vice Chair Newport High School

Outside of politics David has a number of interests. He still plays Veterans football and supports Malpas Football Club at all age levels. He likes Rugby and Golf and Countryside Walking trips and visiting historic buildings, monuments and art galleries.
