Pilton Vale Nature Park

The City Council will soon embark on modifications to the natural area between Pilton Vale/Claremont and the Malpas Bypass. The plans include enhancement of natural areas, encouragement of wildlife and the protection of rare flora. Pathways will allow residents to walk through the area. Work is currently being carried out to create a walkway and cycle path from Malpas to the city centre.

The scheme is being funded from set aside money from the Welsh Assembly as a result of the Bypass and its effect on the original Grove Park

Aims of the survey are: (taken from Pilton Vale, Newport, An Ecological Overview. September 2004 Wye Valley Surveys)

To provide an overview of existing habitats on the site

To identify the more interesting and valuable wildlife habitats

To plot the habitats on a base map

To provide suggestions for management where nature conservation interests could be enhanced

Plans for additional Access path rejected by residents

As part of the renovation of the wildlife area our officers suggested that another link be provided to access to the area. We insisted that they consult with residents first and the result is that all were against the access path with only one in favour.
