April 2003: Rogerstone School relocation at Westfield

You may be aware that Rogerstone Primary School was destroyed by fire last week. The City Council’s priority is to keep the school community together and ensure that pupils are able to resume the new school term with the minimum of disruption. Plans have therefore been made to use the Westfield Lower School in Westfield Way to educate the pupils who unfortunately have lost their school.

Accommodation for years 5 and 6 will hopefully be ready for occupation on Monday, April 28. Further repairs will be carried out to enable the rest of the school to relocate to Westfield on Tuesday, May 6. The pupils, which number approximately 300, will be bussed in and out of Rogerstone. This will be for the short term and, hopefully, demountables will be erected on the present site of Rogerstone school in time for the new academic year in September.

This is a difficult time for both staff and pupils especially those in Year 6 who will be taking their SATS in May. We hope you agree with us that we should welcome them to our community.
